On November 5th, 2015, the greatest socio-environmental disaster in Brazil’s history befell the region of Minas Gerais. A private mining company’s dam burst over several communities, leaving thousands of people displaced, dead, or wounded. People are moved to shelters after the tragedy. Joyful memory of the past is still vivid, but they need to keep on living beyond the confines of the loss and reinvent themselves. Past will not be forgotten because of memory. As long as there is hope, there will be future.
Artistic Merit Award at The 2nd BRICS Film Festival
Presented by Xstream Pictures (Beijing) and Huanxi Media Group Ltd. with Jia Zhang-ke as the producer, “Where Has Time Gone?” is an anthology feature film showing five segments directed by five directors from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, exploring the theme of time and love through their own perspectives.
Caught in frenzied spiral of economic and social development, people are always trying to keep up and chase faster pace of life. It almost becomes an addition that real people and things around individuals are ignored. It is especially true in BRICS countries that are experiencing almost aggressive development where people constantly feel time has lost, hence raise the question “Where has time gone?”.
