MC Speech

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The CTIFMF was formerly known as the Cape Town & Winelands International Film Festival and was established by Leon van der Merwe in 2007.  After eight relatively successful years, the festival as it was known has been absorbed into a new company structure with an ambitious vision for it to become the Cannes of Africa. This year marks the 10th year since its inception and it is being celebrated with a new brand identity and for the first time, appoint a brand ambassador!

So today marks a milestone that will redefine the film market and festival landscape in Africa. To articulate this being achieved we have a selection of key representatives who will take you on a journey of new possibilities for the growth and development of the film and television industry in Africa; as well as how the CTIFMF intends to create an enabling environment for South Africa’s evolution from a thriving film services industry, to a content production hub for Africa and beyond.

We are thrilled to introduce the indelible Ms Pearl Thusi as the face of the 2017 festival! We believe that in her personal capacity, she embodies the upward trajectory that we see our festival mirroring. She’s also a role-model to thousands of aspiring artists who are looking to break into the film and television industry – both locally and abroad.

We underscore that while our festival is being supported by and hosted in The City of Cape Town, the platform is a continental one on which the African continent should position itself as a serious global contender in the film and television economy.
